When Paul Ryan dropped his “Path to Prosperity” Budget Plan in 2011 it was the sickest piece of legislation anyone had seen in decades.
DT’s Big Budget Bomb, as Ezra Klein aptly rebranded in his latest New York Times podcast reflection, is exponentially worse. It is an atom bomb tossed into an already teetering U.S. economy. When it explodes no one will be able to escape the fallout.
This Budget Bomb is a 100% transfer of resources from the bottom 5% to the top 5% — Robin Hood in reverse. The rich are literally stealing food from the mouths of hungry children and healthcare (and as a result life) from millions of American families. This is in addition to the deep DOGE cuts to education, transportation, housing, Social Security and other departments that Americans rely on.
It will shatter key measures to save us from more frequent and ferocious climate catastrophes. (Remember, hurricane season is mere weeks away.) You know that $7500 tax credit you got for adding solar panels to your roof? Gone. You know that tax credit you got for buying an electric car—and the promise of more electric energy stations? Gone. Plus, DT has already whittled FEMA down to a nub.
Plus, DT’s Budget Bomb increases the national debt by 5x! That means the U.S. will be beholden to foreign governments who lend cash to cover our debt. That makes us vulnerable to their interests.
Ultimately, the Big Budget Bomb is not just a budget. It DT’s way to drag us all back to the days of the Great Depression—one big dust bowl, tanked markets, and no safety-nets.
This legislation stands on the foundation of a core spiritual lie that many Americans believe: Some people are expendable.
They are not.
Is a single image of God expendable? No!
To take food from any child is to starve the image of God!
To snatch healthcare from anyone is to will the death of the image of God!
To ignore climate change at this point is to will the deaths of millions of images of God.
In ancient times, destruction of the king’s image was understood to be a declaration of war against the king.
DT’s Big Budget Bomb is not just a budget. It is a declaration of war against God.
